Project 5: What-Why-How-What If (2)

After struggling with my project, this week, I wrote down my past and experience and what I had done before Project 5. I am doing this because I want to know clearly what I like and what I want to do next.

Then, I want to focus on art, understanding, and people’s perspectives, especially on art toys or designer toys, because I still want to continue from Project 4.

I am curious about why people buy art toys. Are they following the trend? Are they interested in art? Are art toys art? After talking with artists at Thailand Toy Expo 2024, it seems like artists want people to understand their art. But do people who buy art toys, do they understand them? Or do they need to understand them?

I came up with the question, How can we raise awareness and enhance people’s understanding of art? Because I want people to understand the art toys according to what artists need, like I needed when I posted my artwork on Instagram.

I also write the Project 5 draft proposal (WWHWI) to understand my project more.

  1. What: How can we raise awareness and enhance people’s understanding of art?
  2. Why: I want to change how people see art, for example, art toys. Some artists want people to understand their art, not just see it as a product to buy or for decoration, because they think the art toy is also an important and meaningful type of art. I also want people to understand my message through art, but why would I just say it rather than translate it to art and let people guess it? I think art is important; it is not just drawing or painting or 3D form; it is a visual that can explain many things in one piece. But if I say it, it is a word; it is in the air, and maybe people will forget it.
  3. How: From my research, I am trying to find what makes people interested in art or get attention from people. One reason is ‘cute’ because it’s cute, then people like it. But not all cute art has an optimistic meaning; some art that people feel is cute may be about something very bad and sad. In this project, I will create an intervention called ‘Guess the meaning’. In this intervention, I will ask people about the artwork’s meaning and then reveal its real meaning to them. The goal is to get people involved with ‘cute’ art by letting them guess what it means and then explaining what the artist intended. This helps them see the deeper meaning and value behind this art’s style.
  4. What If: I want to be an artist who creates artwork that can change people’s perspectives of this world. I would like people to understand and appreciate art and artists. I think more people will engage with art through ‘cute’ styles, which can lead to a wider appreciation of different artistic expressions. This could also create a more inclusive art community that values diverse artistic styles and welcomes new art forms, enriching society’s cultural landscape.

I added the process of my idea and how it goes in the form of a shell, from inside to outside.
