Unit 3 (12)

This week, I had a tutorial with my tutor. I updated the tutor about the intervention feedback and my new project question, and the tutor’s feedback helped me to improve my project.

  • More evidence
    • Art toys + Emotional well-being
    • Artworks + Emotional well-being
    • Statistics
      • Are people who buy art happier?
      • Are adults who buy toys emotionally healthy?
  • The phrase ‘Emotional well-being’ in my new question is more cliche. Maybe try other words.
  • Regarding the postcard that I gave to the participants, maybe give information about my project.
    • Provide the small corner of joy.
  • Where is the line between being a collector and addicted?

After the tutorial, I worked on improving the second intervention. As mentioned in the previous blog, I will conduct the second intervention again because having more feedback from participants will be good for me. So, I have improved the postcard to contain information about my project. I think it will help participants better understand my project and my objective.

Here’s what the new information on the postcard looks like.

I also provided a QR code for POP MART’s YouTube channel so that the participants could explore more art toy stories and collections. But I think it would be better if I provided a QR code about my project journey, and maybe they could join a new event in the future. 🙁 But I do not have time for it, and I don’t want to make my blogs public as well. Maybe next time, I’ll plan a time for this.

On Thursday, I went to the Tate Modern Museum again to do the intervention. This time, it went so well, maybe because I have a new ‘Free’ sign. Haha

Feedback from participants

  • “I feel that the chosen art toy can help my emotions by looking at and touching it.”
  • “They can articulate emotions that are difficult to express.”
  • “The art toy reminds me of my sibling, which will help me to have a happy time even when we fight, haha.”
Intervention’s Mood Board

Analysis

In my opinion, the second intervention worked well because it helped people see art toys as more than just collectables. By allowing participants to interact with the toys and reflect on their feelings, they began to appreciate the emotional and artistic value of art toys. Many participants changed their views, recognizing the emotional impact of art toys. This intervention showed that art toys can be seen as legitimate forms of art, influencing how people connect with them emotionally.

On the other hand, I think this intervention needs to be improved. For example, what will the result be if I go to a different museum? As my tutor said, I should do more variables of intervention. But what are the variables?

To explore different variables to understand their impact on the outcome. I thinking about…

  • Different locations: Conduct the intervention at various museums or cultural spaces to see how the setting influences participant engagement and perception.
  • Types of Art Toys: Use different styles or themes of art toys to see which ones resonate most emotionally or artistically with participants.
  • Interaction Methods: Experiment with different ways for participants to engage with the toys (e.g., storytelling, creating art inspired by the toys, or discussions).

Next time, I will improve my project according to my analysis.
