Welcome to the Autumn Term and the beginning of Unit 4! In the first week of Unit 4, I had Project 6 or Hotroom on Monday. This project was about presenting my previous research projects in Unit 3 to the new tutors and receiving feedback from them to prepare for the final term.
At the beginning of Project 6, I focused on exploring ‘How can engaging with art toys help promote positive emotional health?’ This question originated from the observation that art toys are often seen only as collectibles. The aim is to challenge that perception and explore how interacting with art toys can promote emotional health, much like traditional art forms. My research question was initially rooted in this idea of artistic expression and using art toys to create emotional connections.
I prepared evidence documents for everyone in the group to make them understand my project.

After the presentation, the tutors and classmates gave me feedback on my project. Here are the feedbacks that I got…
- This research question doesn’t relate to art toys.
- Why do people need to use art toys to heal their emotions?
- They don’t see my position or anything related to me.
- I want to use art toys for wellness, but the materials of art toys are not suitable for people’s skin and health because they’re all plastics.
- What if I focus on ‘How can childhood life be extended for adults?’
From the above, I want to make everything clear that I want to be an artist that has people appreciate and understand my work.
I have already talked about this in Unit 1. (https://23046008.myblog.arts.ac.uk/2024/04/20/project-2-box-of-uncertainties/)
I have an account on Instagram where I post my works called ‘Song.Soong.Sooong’. (https://www.instagram.com/song.soong.sooong/)
All of my works are illustration products that are created from my ideas, and some are related to the trend because people like to buy things according to the trends, which I don’t want to do, but if I’m not doing that, sometimes people will not be interested in my work. Then, I chose art toys for my research project because they are trendy things right now, and people love to buy them. According to my research, people buy art toys because it is trendy, and they love to follow the trend. But I do think that art toys are art, and art carries some message that they want people to know, but for art toys, people don’t care; they just want to have them because it is cute. So, what’s the point of art toys? Artists put a lot of effort into making it, but do people care? That’s why i choose this topic and want to create awareness for people that the art toys are not just collectible objects, they are art pieces like other form of art.
Furthermore, my project question needs to be improved! For now, I have many things to focus which I will note for the next tutorial.
