This week, I worked on improving my research question to make it clearer and more straightforward. Now, my research question is…
How can creative works shift consumer perceptions from following trends to valuing the process?
So, my intervention is to post about art toys and illustrations on my Instagram. Who will be my target audience? Who are my followers? Where are they from? I need to be more specific about my target audience. If I can be clear about this, I think it will strengthen my research question!
I know that most of my followers are Thai, so I will add this to my research question.
How can creative works shift Thai consumer perception from following trends to valuing the process?
I think adding a small detail about my stakeholders made the question a focus point.
– Intervention update –
After I learned to make art toys by myself last week, this week I took the art toys out for a video shoot around central London. I will use this as the intro for my Instagram to show people about my art toys project.
Here are the videos of art toys.
This video also shows the size of the art toys compared to a human size, such as a bus.
Here are the videos of art toy sketches.
The insight of each video shows that posts about art toys have more engagement than posts about drawings, even though they were posted on the same day.

After looking at the engagement numbers, I see that my art toys’ videos became much more interesting than my illustrations. This tells me that my audience is more attracted to three-dimensional works because they can imagine holding or collecting them. It suggests that showcasing three-dimensional pieces could effectively shift their focus from following trends to appreciating the craft and effort behind each work.
I also planned to talk to the experts, who are the illustrators on Instagram who also make art toys. I would like to know more about…
- How do they engage with their audience?
- How do they work with trends?
- Why the made art toys? Is it because of the trend?
- Etc.
I think it’s a good idea to have Thai artists who work on Instagram as experts to support my project, especially when they share similar experiences and challenges regarding consumer engagement and trend-following behaviour.
