Unit 3 (3)

This week, I have done the draft of the independent study timetable, which I will use to organise my summer break. I need to test the interventions and do more research about my topic.

This is a draft of what I plan to do during the independent study period from 17 June until 22 September.

During the independent study period, I plan to send emails to art toy companies, collectors, and artists to ask for more inside information.

Wednesday 5th is the Dragons Den presentation. I received a lot of feedback about my topic, especially the word ‘art’.

  • What is the meaning of Art? My definition of Art
  • To claim something is Art is difficult
  • Find more criteria which can find what Art is
  • Why do I want art toys to be valued?

After reflecting on the feedback from my Dragons Den presentation, I understand how important it is to clearly explain what Art means, especially when talking about art toys. This experience has made me think deeply about my personal connection to this topic and how to better explain why art toys should be seen as valuable art pieces.

  1. Meaning of Art from Cambridge Dictionary
    • Art (noun) = The making of objects, images, music, etc., that are beautiful or that express feelings.
  2. Meaning of Art in my own definition
    • Art = expression of creativity and emotion.
    • Art = carries messages, ideas, and values from the artist to the audience.
    • Art = process emotions and heal from trauma.
  3. Art toys = Art because…
    • An emotional connection
    • Art toys are more than objects of play; they are meaningful works of Art that reflect and shape our world.

My interest in art toys started with my love for both Art and collecting toys. This project taught me to see art toys as more than just fun items. They are important ways to express ideas and show parts of our culture. The Cambridge Dictionary says Art is about making beautiful or expressive things. To me, Art is also about creativity, sharing ideas, and expressing emotions.

Inspiration

While I thinking about my project, the intervention idea, and the presentation, I found one book that the name of it caught my eye. It’s called ‘How Art Can Change Your Life’ by Susie Hodge.

This book inspired me in many ways, especially the power of art in everyday life.

  • Power on emotions: The book talks about how art can affect our feelings and moods. This idea led me to think about how art toys, like other forms of art, can help people express their emotions.
  • Healing: The writer shows how engaging with art can help people heal and feel better. This influenced my idea that art toys can be tools to help people find comfort.
  • Seeing art in new ways: This inspired me to show people that art toys are not just for collecting but can also be appreciated as valuable and meaningful art.

Right now, I focus on people who already know art toys or collectors. But maybe in the future, I may focus on people who don’t know or familiar with art toys.
